2023 Hearst Journalism Awards

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program announced UNC Hussman as the 2023 overall national champion in collegiate journalism.
It is the school’s fifth consecutive national championship, eighth in the nine past years and 12th since 2002.

A Cold, Hard Look | Undergraduate Honors Thesis

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was a social media craze that took over social media in the summer of 2014. The study sought to discover college student’s general opinions towards the campaign, to learn what reasons motivated participation (or non-participation) in the challenge, and ideas about what factors contributed to the campaign’s virality. Results indicated that the social nature of the campaign gave way for not only its success, but also its primary critiques.

Adding a New Dimension to Advertising | Undergraduate Honors Thesis

This thesis examines the relationship between branded augmented reality and its impact on brand attachment and purchase intent. This thesis sets out to assess if brand-self connections and brand prominence, two prongs of brand attachment, increase as a direct result of using branded augmented reality, if purchase intent increases, and best practices for use of the technology.

During the Fall 2014 semester, students in adjunct professor Roddy Boyd's "MEJO 453: Advanced Reporting" class explored the legal battle between aluminum manufacturer Alcoa and the state of North Carolina over rights to a portion of the Yadkin River in Stanly County.

MJ-school professor Dana McMahan's students accepted FOX Sports University's challenge of helping FOX Sports increase fan engagement with its promotion of NASCAR and the Daytona 500. After successfully pitching to FOX Sports and NASCAR, students attended the Daytona 500 to see their ideas in action.
