We all know that who we see depicted in films is important, but how they’re depicted is the critical issue. How do we control the narratives of our communities when the people in power don’t look like us?

Barry Saunders Visiting Professional and documentary film producer Barb Lee ’88 will hold a conversation geared toward graduate students about the importance of diversity in filmmaking. Ph.D. students Michele Meyer, who works as a senior researcher at the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, and Madhavi Reddi, whose research focuses on identity and representation in entertainment media, will help facilitate the conversation.

REGISTER IN ADVANCE.

The Saunders Visiting Professionals program was established in 2018 at UNC Hussman to enrich the diversity of perspectives for the school’s students by bringing top professionals in residence.

Lee is the founder and president of Point Made Films, a documentary film production company focused on telling stories about the many layers of American identity. She is also the founder and president of Point Made Learning, which creates and offers organizations anti-discrimination products and services based in storytelling.
