Out next month, the book is the first extended work exploring the active role white newspaper publishers and editors played in building and sustaining white supremacist political economies and social orders in the New South from 1875 -1920, as well as the resistance of the Black press. Forde is also co-editor of the Journalism & Democracy book series at the University of Massachusetts Press. Her work on press history has received the Frank Luther Mott-KTA Book Award, the AEJMC History Division Book Award, the Covert Award and the James W. Carey Media Research Award. Her dissertation at UNC received the AEJMC Nafziger-White Dissertation Award. This event is part of the Hussman Media Justice Speaker Series and is co-sponsored by the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life and ABIDE, the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media committee for Access, Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity.
