Shannon McGregor, assistant professor at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media and senior researcher at the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life, will be presenting a lightning talk at the virtual Carolina Data Science Now seminar "Navigating Politics & the Law” on Nov. 10, 2022, at noon. 

The event will feature three lightning talks by professors and researchers in UNC's academic community, centered around how data science is used to examine political action, policy processes, and timely issues such as criminal justice and economic change. These talks will be followed by a guided panel, an opportunity for questions and answers with the speakers, and a discussion with the data science community at UNC.

Tamara K. Nopper is a sociologist at Rhode Island College and senior researcher with the Labor Futures initiative at Data & Society. She will be speaking about credit scoring systems and the racial wealth gap.

This event is part of CITAP's Fall Speaker Series, which is focusing on identity, inequality and institutions.

The event will take place in person and will also be livestreamed and available for later viewing.
