DEADLINE: Extracurricular activity funding application
Repeats every month on the 31 of August until Sun Mar 31 2019. Also includes Sun Sep 30 2018, Wed Oct 31 2018, Fri Nov 30 2018, Mon Dec 31 2018, Thu Jan 31 2019, Thu Feb 28 2019, Sun Mar 31 2019. September 30, 2018 (All day) Funding for extracurricular activities is available throughout the academic year from three funds: Don and Barbara Curtis Excellence Fund for Extracurricular Activities, Cole Campbell Professional Development Fund and Patricia Miller Moore Award. There is one application for extracurricular activities. Applications are due and reviewed at the end of each month — August through March — during the academic year. Fall 2018 networking trip to Washington, D.C.
October 4, 2018 (All day) to October 5, 2018 (All day) Washington, D.C. During networking trips, students make connections and seek advice on landing internship and job opportunities. Students visit workplaces, where they meet in small groups with alumni and others working in media and journalism fields. These visits aren't job or internship interviews but informal meetings with alumni eager to share career tips. Media and journalism outlets previously visited include The New York Times, CNN, Fox News, Edelman, Google, Facebook, PopSugar, Goop, and Cohn & Wolfe. Locations vary each trip. Students selected for the trip typically have already completed courses in the Hussman School and have internship or related experience. The trips are open to undergraduate majors and master's students admitted to the Hussman School. Students may participate in one trip per year.

Info session: "MEJO 447: International Media Studies"

October 4, 2018 (All day) Freedom Forum Conference Center Over Spring Break 2019, students in "MEJO 447: International Media Studies" will travel to London to engage with and learn from communication and media professionals in news and strategic communication companies. Students will also interact with students and faculty at City University London in an effort to expand their global perspectives about the complexities of communication messages and strategies. Enrollment in this course is capped at 14 students. The course is restricted to majors in the Hussman School, with preference given to juniors and seniors. To register for a UNC campus tour, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Academic yearTours during the fall and spring semesters are led by the Hussman School Ambassadors and include a visit from Charlie Tuggle, senior associate dean for undergraduate studies. Tours depart from the main lobby on the first floor of Carroll Hall. Feel free to reserve a spot in advance — or you can just show up! Reservations are not required for tours during the academic year. Fall 2018: Tours will be held on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. beginning Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, and running through Friday, Nov. 30, 2018. No tours will be held during Fall Break (Oct. 19, 2018), Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 23, 2018) and any other time that the University is closed (including inclement weather).
