Spring 2019 networking trip to San Francisco / Silicon Valley
March 10, 2019 (All day) to March 13, 2019 (All day) San Francisco / Silicon Valley, California During networking trips, students make connections and seek advice on landing internship and job opportunities. Students visit workplaces, where they meet in small groups with alumni and others working in media and journalism fields. These visits aren't job or internship interviews but informal meetings with alumni eager to share career tips. Media and journalism outlets previously visited include The New York Times, CNN, Fox News, Edelman, Google, Facebook, PopSugar, Goop, and Cohn & Wolfe. Locations vary each trip. Students selected for the trip typically have already completed courses in the Hussman School and have internship or related experience. The trips are open to undergraduate majors and master's students admitted to the Hussman School. Students may participate in one trip per year. The Hussman School pays for the hotel stay for students on networking trips. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the trip location and incidental expenses such as food. The David Brinkley Teaching Excellence Award is awarded to a faculty member in the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media for excellence in classroom teaching for any level of student, both graduate and undergraduate.
