Jacob Thompson is a Ph.D. student and Roy H. Park Fellow at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. His research focuses on the intersection of communication and identity and, in particular, on the use of strategic communication to promote diversity and inclusion. Thompson's dissertation explores how universities' use of multiple categorization messages can encourage students to view their peers — and themselves — as complex individuals with multifaceted identities, reducing intergroup bias and fostering a more inclusive campus environment.
