Four UNC J-school alumni were part of teams honored in the New Approaches categories of the 35th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

Joan Cates will lead a team to communicate the importance of vaccinating against the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S.

Susan King was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame at a Sept. 18 gala in Buffalo, N.Y., where she was honored with the Buffalo Bob Smith Award.

Samuel L. Fulwood III, a 1978 UNC journalism alumnus and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C., has been recognized with the 2014 Harvey E. Beech Outstanding Alumni Award for Overall Achievement.
He is also a member of the school's Board of Advisers.

A team of students and faculty from UNC and the University of Navarra in Spain, has launched a multimedia website documenting how investors in solar energy in Spain have suffered as the government has cut returns to investors.

Three graduate students in the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media — all specializing in media law and policy — spent their summers in Washington, D.C. working on media law and policy issues at top advocacy organizations and think tanks.

The M.A. in Technology and Communication welcomed its fourth cohort of students with orientation Aug. 11-12. While on campus, students got to know each other as well as MATC faculty, administrators and alumni. A panel of MATC alumni shared how they dealt with home/work responsibilities during the program, which served as great preparation for starting graduate school. MATC students began online coursework Aug. 19.

Twelve faculty members, 14 grad students, one staff member and nearly 40 alumni represented UNC at the 2014 AEJMC convention in Montréal Aug. 6-9.
