Scott Parrott, a 2013 UNC doctoral graduate, was honored with AEJMC’s Nafziger-White-Salwen Dissertation Award for best mass communication dissertation. It marks the third consecutive year a UNC student has won the award.

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media will honor eight leaders in journalism and strategic communication in an Oct. 10 induction ceremony in Chapel Hill for the N.C. Halls of Fame for Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations.
The 2014 N.C. Halls of Fame inductee class includes:
•       Harry Amana, UNC professor emeritus, first black UNC journalism professor (journalism)

Richard Cole Eminent Professor Dan Riffe received the Eleanor Blum Distinguished Service to Research Award during the 2014 AEJMC convention in Montréal.

Two UNC students were each one of 20 students chosen to participate in the student newsroom for the 2014 Online News Association (ONA) conference Sept. 25-27 in Chicago.

Three UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media faculty members and two staff members were recognized with awards during the school’s 2014 spring commencement ceremony May 11 at Carmichael Arena.
Edward Vick Prize for Innovation in Teaching

The school welcomes Dan Kim, Adam Saffer and Lisa Villamil, who join the faculty as assistant professors.

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media professors Barbara Friedman and Anne Johnston won the Donna Allen Award for Feminist Advocacy for The Irina Project, which they co-direct, and its advocacy for the responsible and accurate reporting of sex trafficking.

Public relations students received three awards, including two best in show awards, in the NCPRSA InSpire Awards competition, marking the fifth consecutive year UNC J-school students have received top student honors.

Senior Carolyn Van Houten won first place in multimedia and senior Charlie Shelton took third in the radio category of the Hearst Journalism Awards National Championships held June 2-6 in Washington, D.C.
