Two UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication seniors were among 66 UNC students honored with Chancellor’s Awards — the University’s most prestigious awards for academic achievement and leadership.

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media marked an historic achievement on Sunday, May 11, 2014—graduating its first cohort of online graduate students with a Master of Arts in Technology and Communication (MATC). The inaugural cohort began online classes in August 2011 and progressed together through the two-and-a-half-year program, forming a rich community, professional network and lasting friendships.

Carolina Connection was named the best all-around radio newscast for the fourth time in five years and two students won individual radio awards in the SPJ national Mark of Excellence Awards given for work published in 2013.

Two UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media professors — Barbara Friedman and Anne Johnston — were among nine University faculty members selected as the fifth class of Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars.

"Living Galápagos," a UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media interactive project, won a People’s Voice Webby Award in the 18th Annual Webby Awards.

Jessica Willoughby, a 2013 doctoral graduate of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, was recognized with a 2014 Impact Award from UNC’s Graduate Education Advancement Board.
Impact Awards are given to graduate students whose research is of exceptional benefit to North Carolina.

Pat Davison has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to Japan and produce documentary video about the country’s aging population.

The UNC J-school recognized top students with more than 100 scholarships and awards totaling more than $125,000.
