Three top Bloomberg News journalists gave UNC Hussman students their insights and tips on reporting with technology during a workshop on innovation and news on Friday.

The Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting will launch its partnership with UNC Hussman with a thoughtful conversation with some of America’s leading investigative reporters on Saturday, Nov. 16.

UNC-Chapel Hill’s student body has once again received honors from the nation’s most prestigious academic society. Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most honored academic society in America, inducted 162 UNC Chapel Hill students as new members last week. One of this year's inductees comes from UNC Hussman: Claire Cathleen Maloney ’20, a media and journalism major and a history minor.

A cutting-edge classroom installed this summer in 58 Carroll Hall is piloting “AVoverIP” — the first classroom on Carolina’s campus to receive all audio and video over the network. It contains the largest screen in our school — 220-inch, with a native 4K projector — and five separate displays which can present unique content controlled by the room’s instructor or by groups of students. The classroom is a prototype for the new Curtis Media Center’s high-tech, flexible space solutions. Construction on the Curtis Media Center is underway thanks to a $10 million gift from the Curtis Foundation to build a state-of-the-art media center and fund immersive learning experiences for UNC Hussman students.

Via UNC.edu, head to The Well for the latest Focus Carolina on UNC Hussman professor Paul Cuadros, the chair and executive director of the UNC Scholars’ Latino Initiative and co-founder of the Carolina Latinx Center. Cuadros researches and writes about race and poverty in North Carolina.

Alumna Lauren Berry ’08 is the managing editor for data-driven news and automation at Bloomberg, where she manages a team of editors across the Americas that analyzes regular patterns in financial statements.

Objectivity, impartiality, integrity and truth-seeking: On Homecoming weekend, Carolina honored those core journalistic values and took a step into the future of journalism and media education, with a day celebrating the new UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. At a standing-room-only ceremony, the school assumed its new name, and honored the transformational contribution of Walter Hussman Jr. ‘68 and the Hussman family.
