DTH profiles UNC Hussman Career Peers program

The Daily Tar Heel is featuring UNC Hussman's Career Peers program, launched this fall. Chelsea Ramsey reports on the three Hussman students currently leading the program, all of whom specialize in different areas of journalism and media. Seniors Isabel Hewgley, Alice Lim and Niki Suchy will mentor other students, offer professional advice and organize events like the upcoming student-to-student internship fair.

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media graduate Anu Anand ’95 was one of six University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduates to receive a 2020 UNC Chapel Hill Distinguished Alumna and Alumnus Award in a virtual ceremony held on University Day, Monday, October 12. Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz presided over the presentation.

Ida B. Wells Society welcomes Rhema Bland

Bland is the new director of the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Co-founded by award-winning journalists Nikole Hannah-Jones (M.A. ’03), Ron Nixon and Topher Sanders, the society seeks to increase the ranks, retention and profile of reporters and editors of color in the field of investigative reporting.

Abby Johnston, the deputy editor of The 19th*, joined Teaching Associate Professor Lindsay King’s broadcast journalism class this week to speak about nonprofit, gender-focused journalism with a digital business model and network of reporters who were scattered across the country even before the pandemic hit.
