Six UNC Hussman faculty members were recently selected for prestigious professorships in the school. There are a total of 16 such professorships that have been established to enable to school to recruit and retain top faculty talent and honor distinguished alumni and former faculty.

UNC Hussman’s new state-of-the-art Curtis Media Center is on its way, after demolition occurred on the former Phillips Annex site on Polk Place this month. It clears the way for a leading-edge flexible space that brings together students and faculty around emerging technology in a collaborative environment.

On Sunday evening, June 14, 7.9 million viewers tuned in to “60 Minutes,” CBS’ flagship news program, and saw University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz explaining the University’s plans to bring students, faculty and staff back to as safe a campus as possible in the fall. “The College Test,” a 13-minute segment produced by UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media alumnus and 11-time Emmy winner Draggan Mihailovich ’83, was the first news segment of the episode.

UNC Hussman Park Fellow alumna Nikole Hannah-Jones (M.A. ’03) of The New York Times Magazine joined Professor James Leloudis of the UNC Department of History in conversation on June 24.

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Professor Seth Noar has received a five-year, $3.35 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to lead a national study to develop and test messages that discourage adolescents from using electronic cigarettes.

The deans at the 11 journalism schools that lead the Carnegie-Knight Initiative on the Future of Journalism Education met at the Knight Foundation in Miami in January 2020 for their annual meeting at which newspaper publisher Walter Hussman challenged the deans to create a statement of shared values.
