Via UNC.edu, head to The Well for the latest Focus Carolina on UNC Hussman professor Paul Cuadros, the chair and executive director of the UNC Scholars’ Latino Initiative and co-founder of the Carolina Latinx Center. Cuadros researches and writes about race and poverty in North Carolina.

Alumna Lauren Berry ’08 is the managing editor for data-driven news and automation at Bloomberg, where she manages a team of editors across the Americas that analyzes regular patterns in financial statements.

Objectivity, impartiality, integrity and truth-seeking: On Homecoming weekend, Carolina honored those core journalistic values and took a step into the future of journalism and media education, with a day celebrating the new UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. At a standing-room-only ceremony, the school assumed its new name, and honored the transformational contribution of Walter Hussman Jr. ‘68 and the Hussman family.

In September, Carolina announced a historic moment for the school — a Campaign for Carolina gift of $25 million from alumnus and Arkansas native Walter E. Hussman Jr. ’68, his wife Ben, their son Palmer Hussman, and daughters Eliza Hussman Gaines ’12 (M.A.) and Olivia Hussman Ramsey. The gift is the largest single gift ever made to the school and the largest donation in the history of the Hussman family.

Assistant Professor Joe Cabosky and Associate Professor Daniel Kreiss are now accepting applications for the undergraduate research project "Social Media, Social Identity, and the 2020 Presidential Campaign," which begins with a trip to the Iowa caucuses in January 2020.

 
At this year’s University Day celebration on Oct. 12, 2019, Carolina presented UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media master's alumna and former Park Fellow Nikole Hannah-Jones '03 (M.A.) with one of its 2019 Distinguished Alumna and Alumnus Awards, which honors alumni who have made outstanding contributions to humanity.

Emily Steel, a 2006 graduate of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter with the New York Times, received one of this year’s Distinguished Young Alumni Awards from the UNC General Alumni Association on Sept. 27, 2019.

Alumnus Jordan Fieulleteau ’16, ’18 (M.A.) is a research fellow at the American Voices Project for Standford’s Center on Poverty and Inequality.
