Hussman School students win 27 awards from Society for News Design

Students from the UNC School of Media and Journalism took home 27 awards — the biggest haul of awards from any one university — from the Society for News Design's student contest. This is the sixth consecutive year that MJ-school students have won the most awards in the annual student design competition.

Hussman School welcomes award-winning international journalist Kate O'Brian as Hearst Visiting Professor

Kate O'Brian, president of Al Jazeera America, will join the faculty of the UNC School of Media and Journalism as a Hearst Visiting Professor. With a background in digital platforms, television, radio and investigative reporting, O'Brian will teach Media Hub, a capstone course in the MJ-school.

UNC Hussman School partners with Olympic News Service for students to cover Olympic Games in Rio

Twenty-nine students traveled to Brazil with the UNC School of Media and Journalism to cover the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in partnership with the Olympic News Service and the University of Memphis.

Dean Emeritus Jean Folkerts honored with lifetime achievement award from American Journalism Historians Association

Jean Folkerts, dean emeritus of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media — now a visiting professor and scholar at the A.Q. Miller Hussman School of Journalism and Medias at Kansas State University — has won the 2016 Sidney Kobre Award for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism History.
Folkerts served as dean of the UNC Hussman School from 2005-11.

Noar honored (again) as top health communication scholar

UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Professor Seth Noar has been named the 2016 Outstanding Health Communication Scholar by the National Communication Association (NCA).
Noar will be recognized for the honor at NCA’s annual conference in Philadelphia on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016. The award comes just months after Noar received the Lewis Donohew Outstanding Health Communication Scholar Award at the biennial Kentucky Conference on Health Communication in Lexington, Kentucky. 

Capitol Broadcasting Company to support national media diversity programs based at UNC Hussman School

The UNC School of Media and Journalism announced today that Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) will support two national media diversity initiatives administered by the school. Capitol Broadcasting's gift will support the Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and Media and the CBC-UNC Diversity Fellowship Program over the next four years.
