Research Roundtable - Psychology v. sociology: Do media scholars have to choose?

Friday, November 16, 2018 -
3:30pm to 4:30pm

Halls of Fame (Carroll 128)

Overview

Research RoundtableMedia researchers find theoretical grounding for their work in the psychological and sociological paradigms. Our questions, lines of inquiry, theoretical premises, methods and assumptions about communication phenomena are informed by these two traditions. Scholars from both research paradigms were instrumental in developing the field of communication and mass media research.

The two traditions diverge in many respects, but there are also points of convergence. Must media scholars align with one of these traditions? How can we collaborate with scholars oriented to another tradition? When is it appropriate to “cross over” to the other perspective?

All graduate-level research students and faculty are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided. We will emerge as more well-rounded, theoretically enriched scholars!
