ThE UNC Hussman community is here to support you.

All UNC Hussman residential students have access to Carolyn Ebeling, the UNC Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) counselor embedded in Carroll Hall.

You can reach Carolyn at cebeling@email.unc.edu to set up a time to talk with them in Carroll Hall or virtually. Carolyn meets with students by appointment only and works exclusively with UNC Hussman students.

Available Services

Available services include an initial assessment of needs, individualized planning for reported concerns, initiating engagement in brief therapy, connection to group therapy services, medication management and referral coordination. Services are offered both in-person and by telehealth (as long as the student is located in North Carolina at the time of services).

Group Support

CAPS offers a variety of support groups, groups focused on communication and relating to others, and workshop-style groups which teach specific skills. Offerings include but are not limited to:

Self-Compassion Mindfulness

Same-day, walk-in services are available at CAPS (3rd floor, Campus Health) Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For crisis or 24/7 support, call CAPS at 919.966.3658 or call/text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Check Heels Care Network for mental health and well-being resources, including live peer support from student volunteers via the LSN Peer Support chat feature.
UNC Student Wellness offers various programs such as community-building programs, professional wellness coaching and one-on-one services.
Actively Moving Forward is a grief support community for those who have experienced the death or terminal illness of a loved one.
988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Dial 988 to speak to a crisis counselor. The previous Lifeline phone number, 1.800.273.8255 will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
Lifeline Crisis Chat: Chat with a crisis counselor online. A short survey must be completed first.
Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741. The first two responses are automated, with a crisis counselor responding in the next few minutes.
