Resume Round Up with Career Peers
Hussman Career Peers are fellow students who are trained on how to assist in all the things offered during a meeting with Career Services. Meet Makayla, the 2024-2025 Hussman Career Peer.
Makayla Elks ’25 is a Hussman major on the AD/PR track. She has worked in various marketing roles, including as the vice president of marketing for UNC’s chapter of the Alpha Phi International Fraternity and most recently as the podcast media manager for Onward Reserve. Makalya also has international experience, completing an internship in Barcelona, Spain, as the marketing intern for a real estate company. She served as the first and only person to hold marketing responsibilities for the company.

Internships
Finding an internship takes work. That’s why we created Hussman Internship Jumpstart for students. Here you will find a listing of potential internships. This is a listing of ALL the internships we have advertised in the past year. This is NOT a listing of all opening internships.
If you have further questions on your search, make an appointment with us. We would love to help you. And make sure to read the next section on Networking. Networking is the key to unlocking many of your opportunities.
The University employs more than 9,500 student employees in a wide variety of on-campus jobs each year. Any student is eligible to work if they are enrolled full- or part-time in a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate program – which includes master’s, Ph.D. and professional programs.
There are lots of options, including academic, non-academic and work study positions.
Handshake is an online platform UNC-CH students use for internship and job searches. As a UNC student you have access to the platform with your ONYEN. The platform will work best the more completed you have your profile. You can set parameters within the platform to help you search for on-campus work, internships and jobs.
While Handshake is a great tool, Hussman Careers teaches quality over quantity when searching for work and internships. Please avoid the urge to mass apply.
