Local News Researchers Workshop
The Center for Sustainability and Innovation in Local Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media & Democracy at Duke University and the Knight Foundation invite researchers across the academic, industry, non-profit and government sectors whose work addresses contemporary issues confronting local journalism.
The theme for this year’s workshop is Impact and Measurement. Specific topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Defining and measuring impact in local news.
- Newsroom impact metrics.
- Audience and community-based impact.
- The role of impact assessment in journalism philanthropy.
- Methodological innovations in assessing the state of local journalism.
- Data access and availability.
- Ethical assumptions or considerations related to impact assessment.
- Assessing the impact of policy interventions.
Researchers from early-career and graduate student researchers to tenured academics and high-level professionals are encouraged to attend and learn from each other.
