The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media will host a graduation celebration for students completing its one-year Strategic Communication and Journalism master’s programs of study Saturday, July 18 at 10 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union.
Graduates should arrive by 9:30 a.m. to line up. A reception for students and families will follow the ceremony at about 11 a.m.
We are excited to welcome back editor, writer, historian and school alumna Cynthia Greenlee ’00 (M.A.) to address our graduating master’s students. A self-described “lifelong Southerner by birth, residence and culture,” Dr. Greenlee is a recipient of the coveted James Beard Foundation Award for food writing. She has edited special projects for The Guardian and had her work published in The Atlantic, The Nation, The New York Times, Oxford American, Smithsonian magazine, Vox and elsewhere. A scholar of African-American and women’s history, Dr. Greenlee holds a doctorate from Duke University and was the lead editor of the anthology “The Echoing Ida Collection.”
The Frank Porter Graham Student Union is located in the heart of the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, adjacent to Davis Library, The Pit and Student Stores.
The closest large parking area to the Union is the Cobb Deck, accessible from Country Club Road or Raleigh Street. It about a four-minute walk from the deck to the closest entrance to the Union. Parking in most campus lots on weekends is free and open to the public.
