An evening with two Emmy Award-winning filmmakers whose work has shaped contemporary documentary storytelling.

Jon Kasbe is a director and cinematographer whose films have screened at Sundance, Tribeca and SXSW, and appeared on Netflix, Hulu and Showtime. His work includes “When Lambs Become Lions,” a three-year immersion with Kenyan ivory poachers and wildlife rangers, and “Blood Rider,” a short film about motorcycle blood delivery in Lagos published in The New Yorker.

Rob Gourley is a director of photography and colorist based in Brooklyn whose credits include productions for Hulu, HBO Max, PBS NewsHour, NOVA and CNN. A UNC Hussman alum and former Morehead-Cain Scholar, Rob has worked in 10 countries and specializes in intimate vérité filmmaking with small crews.

Both filmmakers will screen selections from their work and discuss their creative processes, career paths and approaches to visual storytelling. This event is free and open to all UNC students.
