Racialized Disinformation: Elections Past, Present and Future
The UNC Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP) and the Carolina Association of Black Journalists invite you to attend “Racialized Disinformation: Elections Past, Present and Future.”
Location: Freedom Forum, Carroll Hall
Time: 5-7 p.m.
This panel brings together our principal researchers to discuss the long history of electoral disinformation in the United States and the ways that racialized disinformation is targeted at communities of color to suppress their political power.
Through the lens of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, CITAP researchers will discuss the current landscape of electoral disinformation, how and why it spreads, and what media literacy strategies people can use to identify and combat it. Finally, researchers will discuss how journalists can cover disinformation to resist amplifying its spread and power and strengthen democratic life.
