Six UNC Hussman students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society

Phi Beta Kappa, the prestigious academic honorary society founded in 1776, recently inducted six seniors from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media as new members. 

The Thursday, Nov. 9, induction ceremony featured a keynote address by Martin H. Brinkley, dean of the UNC School of Law, and Arch T. Allen, distinguished professor of law. New members received certificates and Phi Beta Kappa keys, the organization’s symbol.

UNC Hussman recipients include:

• Katherine Frances Cayton ’18 (history and political science double major; media and journalism minor)
• Margaret Susan Cruser ’18 (computer science major; media and journalism minor)
• Nile Foxx Iverson ’18 (media and journalism, and biology double major; chemistry minor)
• Kristen Michelle Marino ’18 (media and journalism, and psychology double major)
• Samantha Paisley ’18 (media and journalism, and political science double major)
• Analisa Maria Sorrells ’17 (public policy major; media and journalism minor)

Five UNC-Chapel Hill students chose not to be listed.

Less than 1 percent of all college students qualify for the honor, which is open to undergraduates in the college and professional degree programs who meet stringent eligibility requirements.

Past and present Phi Beta Kappa members from across the country have included 17 American presidents, 40 U.S. Supreme Court Justices and more than 130 Nobel Laureates.
