UNC at Conference of the International Communication Association, Saffer receives top faculty paper in public relations
Five faculty members and five graduate students from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media presented at the 66th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association: Communicating with Power. The conference was held June 9-13, at the Fukuoka Sea Hawk Hilton Hotel in Fukuoka, Japan.
On Friday, June 10, Assistant Professor Adam Saffer, Aimei Yang (University of Southern California) and Maureen Taylor (University of Tennessee) presented “Multistakeholder Network and Stakeholder Relationship Management: Reconsidering Power in Public Relations Relationships” as one of the three Top Faculty Papers in Public Relations.
Through the conference, an estimated 2,500 scholars from more than 40 countries attended over 550 presentations representing the latest advances in the field of communication.

- Daniel Kreiss, Adam Saffer, Kylah Jae Hedding and Jennifer Harker presented “U.S. Political Party Adaptation to Technology-Intensive Campaigning: A Network Analysis of Organizational Affiliation.”

- Tae Ho Lee and Daniel Riffe presented “A Comparative Analysis of Business News Coverage of Corporate Social Responsibility in the United States and the United Kingdom From 2005 to 2014.”

- Adam Saffer served as the respondent on the Power [and, in, of] Public Relations paper session.
- Nori Comello presented “GIFT: Learning to Respond to Critiques of Communication Campaigns: A “Speed Dating” Approach.”
- Nori Comello, Diane Francis, Laura Marshall and Deanna Puglia (UNC Interdisciplinary Health Communications) presented “Cancer Survivors Who Play Recreational Computer Games: Motivations for Playing and Associations With Beneficial Psychological Outcomes.”
- Rhonda Gibson and UNC Hussman Ph.D. ’15 graduate Karen Elizabeth McIntyre (Virginia Commonwealth University) presented “Effects of positive stereotypes of sexual minorities on news consumers’ attitudes and recognition of stereotypes.”
