UNC at the virtual AEJMC Southeast Colloquium | UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media

Six graduate students, one faculty member and various alumni will represent the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media on March 19-21, 2020, at the 45th annual Southeast Colloquium of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, held in a virtual format. These scholars will participate in panel sessions and present authored or co-authored papers and presentations.

UNC Hussman faculty and student activities at the 2020 AEJMC Southeast Colloquium include:

M.A./J.D. student Isabela Palmieri won the second-place student paper award for the paper, “A case of statutory construction: Carving out the First Amendment through anti-boycott legislation.”

M.A./J.D. student Kathryn Johnson will present “An analysis of current cyber misbehavior laws and their applicability to the act of doxing.”
Isabella Palmieri will present “A case of statutory construction: Carving out the First Amendment through anti-boycott legislation.”
M.A. student Sydney Nicolla will present “Changing times and (un)changing judiciaries: Freedom of association, sexual orientation and discrimination in the workplace.”
M.A./J.D. student Ashley Fox and Associate Professor Tori Ekstrand will present “Regulating the political Wild West: State efforts to address online political advertising.”
Tori Ekstrand will participate on the panel, “Entering the Thunderdome: Hate speech and you!”

Ph.D. alumna Kyla Garrett Wagner and Tori Ekstrand will present “The status of communication and law research: A work in progress.”
M.A./J.D. student Morgan English will present “Black Target, Red Arrow.”
Ph.D. student Jasmine Gray will present “Life Plotting: Healing In A Children’s Hospital.”
