Andy Bechtel
Andy Bechtel teaches reporting, writing and editing. He joined the faculty in 2005.
Bechtel has about 12 years of editing experience in newspapers, primarily at The News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina. His other experience includes work as a copy editor and page designer at the News & Record in Greensboro. While teaching at UNC Hussman, he worked for a summer at the website of the Los Angeles Times.
Bechtel is a lifetime member of ACES: the Society for Editing. He has served as a member of the ACES Board of Directors and on its Education Fund board. He is a contributing writer for the ACES newsletter and website.
Bechtel is a co-author of The Associated Press Stylebook’s study guides, published in 2023. He has also written reviews and articles for publications such as Journalism & Mass Communication Educator and Communication: Journalism Education Today.
