Monica Hill
As director of the school’s high school media programs, Monica Hill works with K-12 journalism teachers and students. The N.C. Scholastic Media Association (NCSMA) promotes scholastic journalism programs and services, including a mentoring program for new teachers. NCSMA offers fall regional workshops, spring semester field trip days and a summer institute. The association coordinates statewide contests for student media and a fellowship program for N.C. high school journalism teachers.
Hill also operates the N.C. College Media Association (NCCMA), another outreach and engagement service of the school. NCCMA organizes an annual conference on a different college campus in the state each year, as well as an annual statewide college media contest.
Hill serves as ex-officio member of N.C. Press Foundation Board and on the N.C. Open Government Coalition board. She has previously served on the board of directors for National Scholastic Press Association, Crown Awards judge for Columbia University’s Columbia Scholastic Press Association, board consultant for Southern Interscholastic Press Association and head of the Scholastic Journalism Division of Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Before joining the school’s staff, Hill was director of Alabama Scholastic Press Association at The University of Alabama.
