Rebecca Fish joined the Hussman School of Journalism and Media in 2024 and will be teaching health communications and marketing courses.

Fish has over 25 years of healthcare experience, working with almost every type of stakeholder in the industry. Her experience spans the public and private sectors, including a variety of commercial and public policy positions. She has led teams responsible for nearly $1 billion in annual revenue.

Fish has worked for global pharmaceutical manufacturers, including Merck and GlaxoSmithKline, as well as smaller biotechnology firms. Her positions have ranged from vice president of marketing to vice president of global health policy to national account executive. Fish also spent time in the public sector, working with the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and serving as the senior policy advisor to the U.S. deputy assistant secretary of health. Internationally, Fish has worked with organizations including WHO, USAID, and the Gates Foundation.

She was a contributing author to the 2020 book, Preparing for Pandemics in the Modern World, which outlines areas of weakness in pandemic prevention, detection and response. She has also published articles on adult immunization, medical countermeasures and the Affordable Care Act.  

Fish earned her MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and served as a member of the Fuqua Health Care Advisory Board. She completed a fellowship in biosecurity through the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and received a degree in neuroscience from Mount Holyoke College.  

A highly rated guest lecturer at Dartmouth, Duke, Johns Hopkins and Georgetown Universities, Fish is excited to join the UNC community. Outside of work, she has been involved with SCORE, serving as a certified mentor and marketing instructor for small business owners.

Fish is the mother of three children – all of whom are in college.
