AI writing/editing webinar and graduate info session

Communications and media professionals are invited to spend a lunch hour learning about the use of AI in professional writing and editing in a live, online session from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Tuesday, Sept. 29 at noon.

Lorra Brown, a UNC Hussman faculty member and director of the school’s online M.A. in Digital Communication program, will lead a free webinar, “​The Communicator’s Advantage in the Age of AI:  ​Embedding Judgement, Strategy, Voice and Context into AI Writing and Editing.” The hourlong session will also include a presentation about UNC Hussman’s online graduate programs designed for working professionals. Webinar: The Communicator’s Advantage in the Age of AI: Embedding Judgement, Strategy, Voice and Context into AI Writing and Editing

AI doesn’t make bad communicators good. On its own, produces writing that is often flat, vague and ineffective. But Professor Brown will draw on her extensive research on and experience with AI platforms to identify practical workflows to maintain the human elements of judgment, strategy, voice and context when using AI as a strategic partner, editor and/or co-writer.

The presentation will review which AI platforms work best for which work and “power moves” to get the most out of prompts. Professor Brown will outline the questions you should ask yourself about any AI-assisted draft goes live.

Andy Bechtel, director of UNC Hussman’s online graduate certificates, will join Professor Brown to help provide an overview of the certificate and online master’s programs:

Faculty members will preview their courses and the rest of the online graduate curriculum. Graduate staff will review program timelines, admission requirements and other details. Attendees can ask questions during the live session or via email follow-up.
