Viscom speaker series: Documentary producing, ethics and overlaps with academia
UNC Viscom proudly presents Christine Delp as part of the 2026 speaker series!
Christine Delp is a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the University of Minnesota, where she holds a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
She is a cultural sociologist who researches the media industries, particularly the cultural production of knowledge in the digital age. Her current research examines the impact of platformization on the U.S. documentary film industry.
She works across disciplinary boundaries, including sociology, journalism, communications and media studies. Her research interests include media sociology, sociology of culture, media industry studies, documentary, journalism studies, digital sociology, media ethics, social theory and visual communications.
Delp has taught in both the sociology and journalism departments at the University of Minnesota, receiving a teaching excellence award in 2025.
She is also an award-winning documentary producer and director, with work on HBO, PBS, Al Jazeera and other outlets worldwide. Recent work has been recognized by the Library of Congress, Critics Choice Awards, International Documentary Association, News & Documentary Emmy Awards and others.
