Viscom speaker series: Long-form solutions journalism

UNC Viscom proudly presents Justin Cook ’06 as part of the 2026 speaker series!

Cook is a journalist, photographer, educator and artist based in Durham, North Carolina. His long-term photographic essays and narrative journalism projects tell stories about ordinary people who are being impacted by climate change and connect climate change to things that they are passionate about: their homes, sacred places and history.

Cook is an FAA-licensed drone pilot. He is a multiple Pulitzer Center Grantee and a Solutions Journalism (SJN) Climate Solutions Fellow. With SJN and Columbia Journalism School’s Covering Climate Now, Cook co-authored a guide of best practices creating climate visuals for The Climate Changes Everything Blueprint for Media Transformation. He is certified to teach solutions journalism, and is available to coach, speak and teach about climate change, climate visuals and climate meme-making.

His work as been funded by The North Carolina Arts Council and The Puffin Foundation and honored by The Magenta Foundation, Pictures of The Year International, The Society of Environmental Journalists, The Society of Professional Journalists and American Photography.
