Viscom speaker series: Photo book journey
UNC Viscom proudly presents Andrea Sarcos as part of the 2026 speaker series!
Sarcos is a Venezuelan-American photographer and educator based in Delray Beach, Florida. Born in Caracas to a Venezuelan father and an Ecuadorean mother, she immigrated to the U.S. as a child and lived undocumented for much of her youth. Her work explores themes of migration, memory and identity through portraiture, documentary and lens-based storytelling. Sarcos holds dual degrees in journalism and visual art studies from the University of Florida. She is an artist in residence at the Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach, FL.
In addition to her artistic practice, Sarcos is a photography instructor for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, where she builds youth arts programming, mentors emerging storytellers and curates exhibits of their work. She has also led educational trips with National Geographic Student Expeditions. Sarcos is a board member of Six Eye Films, a nonprofit that makes documentaries exploring critical issues in Florida. Through her work, she seeks to preserve cultural narratives.
Past clients include The Wall Street Journal, AFP and The Gainesville Sun.
Join Sarcos for a discussion on the photo book journey. All students are welcome to join.
