HBO VICE pre-screening, Q&A, with swag giveaways and free food

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media is partnering with HBO and Carolina Union Student Life & Leadership to host a free pre-screening on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, of three episodes from HBO’s Emmy-winning documentary series VICE.

The screening, which will begin at 8 p.m. in Carroll Hall room 33, will be followed by a Q&A with VICE correspondent and producer Isobel Yeung. The Q&A will be moderated by Hussman School faculty member Laura Ruel, the school’s Hugh Morton Distinguished Professor and the director of its M.A. in Technology and Communication program.

Free Chick-fil-A, snacks and HBO swag will be available on first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

VICE, now in its third season, won last year's Emmy award for Outstanding Informational Series or Special. VICE takes viewers around the globe as its correspondents cover stories often overlooked by traditional media outlets, using an immersive documentary style to bring a unique perspective to the events shaping the future.

In her recent work, Yeung has embedded with dynamite fishermen in Tanzania, interviewed rape perpetrators in the DRC and reported on the global rise of GMO crops. She previously reported for several Asian news and entertainment channels, developed documentary travel shows and wrote for notable international publications. She is currently based in New York City.
