Adkisson places first in Hearst photojournalism competition

Carolina photojournalism student John Adkisson, a senior from Charlotte, placed first in the November 2009 photojournalism competition of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program, known as the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism.

His work was selected from among 86 entries submitted from 52 schools nationwide. He qualifies for the national semi-final round of judging.

Courtney Potter, a recent J-school graduate, took sixth place in the competition.

Carolina is currently third overall in accumulated student points in the Hearst Intercollegiate Photojournalism Competition. The final winners will be announced in April 2010.
