Carolina Association of Black Journalists to host workshop

The Carolina Association of Black Journalists (CABJ) and the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media will host a one-day journalism workshop for minority high school students on Saturday, Feb. 27 in Carroll Hall on the UNC campus. A $25 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Various training topics include the use of multimedia equipment and background on the journalism industry, with a focus on the broadcast medium. Participants will meet UNC faculty and area professionals to discuss writing skills and career opportunities.

Applicants should be high school juniors or seniors involved in school publications or media. Workshop directors also invite students interested in journalism careers to apply. Registration requires that each applicant submit a one-page essay based on “diversity in the media” or a writing sample.

The priority application deadline for the Feb. 27 workshop is Jan. 1.  For registration materials or more information, contact the student president of CABJ, Ayana Allen, at allen.ayana@gmail.com, or the N.C. Scholastic Media Association at 1.888.562.6276.
