Tom Bowers, professor emeritus at UNC's Hussman School of Journalism and Media, will deliver the Gladys Coates University History Lecture Oct. 15 at 5:45 p.m. in UNC's Wilson Special Collections Library. His talk will be about the early years of journalism education at UNC. A viewing of the Wilson Library exhibit "Consecrated to the Common Good: 100 Years of Journalism Education at UNC-Chapel Hill" will begin at 5 p.m.

Bowers is the author of "Making News: One Hundred Years of Journalism and Mass Communication at Carolina," newly issued by UNC Press. He was associate dean and senior associate dean of the school for 24 years and interim dean in 2005-2006.
