Gorham places third in Hearst radio competition

Carolina journalism student Will Gorham, a senior from Pinehurst, N.C., placed third nationally in the radio broadcast features competition of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program, known as the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism.

The top five winners in the radio competition were selected from among 35 entries submitted. Gorham, along with the top five finalists in this competition and the top five in the next competition of the awards program, will submit additional entries for a semi-final round of judging. Following the semi-finals, five radio finalists will be chosen to compete in the program’s National Broadcast News Championships in New York City.

UNC is currently in fourth place for accumulated student points from the first radio and television competitions of the Intercollegiate Broadcast News Competition.
