PhotoNight program features Getty Images photographer Chris Hondros on April 17

The school will host Chris Hondros, senior staff photographer with Getty Images, on April 17 for the final PhotoNight event of the 2006-2007 school year.

PhotoNight is free and open to the public, and all are welcome. It is an opportunity for students, professionals and enthusiasts to come together and share work. The evening is designed to give photographers the chance to learn from each other and develop their own styles.

The presentation, in Carroll Hall room 33, will start at 7:30 p.m. and finish at 9 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m., and light refreshments will be available. Portfolio reviews will be available after 9 p.m.

Hondros is an award-winning photographer who has covered major world conflicts since the late 1990s.

His work is frequently published in newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times. He has covered the wars in Kosovo, Angola, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Kashmir, the West Bank, Iraq and Liberia.

His images have received multiple honors from World Press Photo in Amsterdam, the National Pictures of the Year Competition, the Visa Pour L’Image in France, and the John Faber award from the Overseas Press Club.

In 2004, Hondros was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in spot news photography for his work in Liberia. In 2006, he won the Robert Capa Gold Medal, war photography’s highest honor, for his work in Iraq.

Hondros is also a frequent essayist on issues of war, and a regular contributor to several magazines and journals. His work has been profiled by Smithsonian magazine, National Public Radio, American Photo, Current Biography, CNN, The New York Times and Newsweek.
