NPR senior producer, photojournalist to screen documentary at UNC

Greg Kelly, photojournalist and senior producer for NPR’s nationally-syndicated “The Story,” will speak and screen his documentary, “Beyond Words: Photographers of War,” Tuesday (Oct. 30) at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The free public lecture in Room 33 of Carroll Hall will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“Beyond Words: Photographers of War,” which was produced for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 2006, focuses on some of the world’s foremost war photojournalists and their reactions to capturing wartime photographs. Some of those interviewed in the film have been wounded; some have seen colleagues killed; and all have been affected, both positively and negatively, by what they do.

The documentary won a Gabriel Award, honoring works of excellence in broadcast, and a Columbus Bronze Plaque at the Columbus International Film and Video Festival in Ohio. It also received New York Festivals World Silver Medal and a Judges Choice Award for best TV news photography from the National Press Photographers Association.

This documentary includes graphic images of war and may not be appropriate for all audiences. This event is the 40th PhotoNight program presented by the UNC student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association, based in the school.
