Gordon and Price to share experiences of reporting on military conflict

Dick GordonDick Gordon, host of American Public Media’s “The Story,” and Jay Price, a reporter for the News & Observer, will discuss their experiences covering the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan April 23 at 6 p.m. at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media.

Gordon and Price are kicking off a new series of informal dialogues in the journalism school called “Alumni Conversations.” The event will be held in the Freedom Forum Conference Center in Carroll Hall on the UNC campus and is sponsored by the Journalism Alumni and Friends Association.

The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.

Gordon was a foreign correspondent and regular fill-in host for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s national radio program, “This Morning.” He was also a correspondent in Moscow and South Asia. Gordon now hosts “The Story with Dick Gordon” on North Carolina Public Radio, and is produced by American Public Media.

Jay PriceJay Price is a general assignment and military affairs reporter at the News & Observer. He has done four stints in Iraq as a reporter and a fifth in Afghanistan.

Price’s work has been part of teams nominated four times for the Pulitzer Prize, including coverage of Hurricane Floyd that was a finalist in 2000. He has won nearly 20 state and national awards, including first place in the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi awards for a series on four U.S. security contractors killed in Fallujah in 2004.

He also has reported military, travel and economics stories from Chile, Uganda, Kurdistan, Kuwait, Mexico, Guatemala, Vietnam and Italy.
