TABJ scholarships for students

TABJ awardsMonique Newton, a senior news-editorial student, and Ayana Allen, a junior broadcast student, each received a $1,000 scholarship grant from the Triangle Association of Black Journalists.

They were recognized Oct. 25 at the annual TABJ scholarship gala - A Celebration of Excellence - in Cary, N.C.

Carolina journalism alumnus, Fred Shropshire, anchor and reporter for WTVD, participated in the program by introducing the TABJ humanitarian award recipient, Anthony Wilson, also an anchor and reporter for WTVD.

The TABJ, a chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, is an organization of reporters, editors, photographers and other media professionals working in the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill area.
