About the event
Tucker Carlson — veteran political commentator with stints at CNN, PBS, MSNBC and FOX News — will give the 2018 Roy H. Park Distinguished Lecture for the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media on Thursday, April 12, at Memorial Hall. The public event will begin at 11 a.m. with remarks by Carlson, followed by a moderated conversation with Associate Professor Daniel Kreiss and Hussman School students Jordan Fieulleteau '16, '18 (M.A.), Kelsey Mason '18 and Haley McDougal '18.
The Roy H. Park Distinguished Lecture Series began in October 1999. Sponsored by the Triad Foundation of Ithaca, New York, the lectures enhance the Roy H. Park Fellowship Program that began in the school in fall 1997. The fellowships go to new doctoral and master's students in the school each year.
The lecture series brings outstanding professionals to the campus each year with the goal of enriching the educational experience of undergraduate and graduate students, and presenting speakers of interest to the campus and beyond.
The lecture series honors Roy H. Park, the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Park Communications Inc., which became an expansive multimedia company with broadcast and print properties throughout the United States.

Associate Professor Daniel Kreiss joined the Hussman School in 2011 to teach research methods and political communication. His research explores the impact of technology on politics and the public. Oxford University Press recently published his second book, “Prototype Politics,” which explores the central role of technology, digital media, data and analytics in electoral campaigning, revealing the differences in how the two major U.S. political parties harness technology. Kreiss also writes about how changing media environments affect the way that journalism is practiced and organized. Before coming to Carolina, Kreiss worked with the Information Society Project at Yale University on the implications of new information technologies for law and society. |

Jordan Fieulleteau '16, '18 (M.A.) is a Roy H. Park Fellow studying strategic communications in the Hussman School’s master’s program. A former student-athlete who received his undergraduate degree in public relations from Carolina, Fieulleteau was one of 16 media and communications graduate students nationwide selected for a European Union press visit to Brussels in 2017. Fieulleteau is a communications assistant at the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy. In Spring 2017, he helped teach “MEJO 137: Principles of Advertising and Public Relations” at the Hussman School. |

Kelsey Mason '18 is studying public relations and Spanish at Carolina. She has done strategic communications work in the office of U.S. Sen. Richard Burr and at APCO Worldwide in New York City. As a sophomore and junior, Mason contributed to The Daily Tar Heel, Chapel Hill's student newspaper. Mason is also a trained ESL tutor who has volunteered in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools system. |

Haley McDougal '18 is a Carolina public relations and political science double major. Since 2016, she has developed and managed content for UNC Global Relations’ website, magazine and outreach efforts. McDougal has focused her career goals on doing communications work in a political or nonprofit environment. |
