Chicago Community Media Workshop - Abernathy

Can quality community journalism endure in an age when traditional print advertising revenue is being lost to electronic media outlets?  UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media professor Penny Muse Abernathy, Knight Chair of Journalism and Digital Media Economics, believes that it can, and should, thrive.

"Business Models for Community News in a Digital Age" is an interactive seminar designed for editors and publishers of local newspapers with limited staff and resources to help them design a personalized and strategic business plan to transition their organizations into the digital age. Built on lessons Abernathy has gleaned from her personal years of management experience in both the editorial and sales sides of the industry, this seminar addresses how leaders can successfully approach change; how they can develop a successful strategy and business plan; how they can develop and implement an integrated editorial vision; how to sell advertising in a digital environment; and how to monitor and measure the progress of their organization.

The following PowerPoint slideshow and video are part of a three-session workshop running July through September in Chicago along with the Community Media Workshop.
