Dane Huffman grew up in Raleigh and graduated from UNC with a journalism degree in 1983.

After 24 years in sports at The News & Observer, he became the sports managing editor at WRAL, launching WRALSportsFan and HighSchoolOT as part of the station's expansion.

For five years, he led WNCN's news website, winning Best Broadcast Website in the state in 2014 from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas. While he was at WNCN, page views soared from 500,000 to 5 million a month.

For the past five years, he has served as managing editor at the Triangle Business Journal. The paper won a General Excellence award for the first time in 2021 from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing and circulation has nearly doubled over five years.
