Byars honored for lifetime achievement in public relations

The Raleigh Public Relations Society (RPRS) honored UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media assistant professor Queenie Byars Sept. 11 with the Watt Huntley Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The award is in recognition for meaningful and lasting contributions to the field of public relations. It was presented during the Annual Sir Walter Raleigh Awards Banquet at the Cardinal Club in downtown Raleigh.

The Raleigh Public Relations Society is an independent society for public relations and communications professionals. It has supported the industry since 1959.

Byars was recognized for her public relations outreach, mentoring of young communication professionals and advocacy in support of advancing diversity.

The Watt Huntley Award is given in the memory of the late Watt Huntley, who served as public relations chief for Carolina Power & Light and president of the Raleigh Public Relations Society. The award is RPRSĀ¹s highest honor.
