ACES picks Carolina for 2013 conference

ACES logoThe American Copy Editors Society has picked Chapel Hill as the site of its 2013 national conference.

The annual gathering will take place March 14-16, with most sessions at Carroll Hall. Several hundred copy editors are expected to attend the conference, representing news media as well as academia, the public and private sectors, and freelance editors.

"I'm thrilled that ACES is coming to our campus," said Andy Bechtel, associate professor at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media and a member of the ACES executive committee. "It's a great opportunity for editors from various media and for our students."

Past conferences have included sessions on topics such as headlines, grammar and style. Other sessions have addressed social media, blogging and alternative story forms.

"We aim for a program that appeals to editors of all types," Bechtel said.

It's the second time the school will host the event. The first ACES convention was held in Chapel Hill in 1997.

New Orleans is the host for the 2012 ACES conference, and the organization will meet in St. Louis in 2014.
