Commencement info for graduating students

The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media spring commencement will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, in the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

Comedian and radio personality Rick Dees will give the commencement address.

Doors to the Smith Center will open at 12:15 p.m. Students should line up at 12:15 p.m. at entrance C of the Smith Center.

Handicap parking is available for guests with the appropriate car placards. If your guests need disability parking and do not have a handicap placard, please contact Amy Bugno at amybugno@unc.edu by Wednesday, May 4 at 5 p.m. Requests made after that point may not be granted.

Parking will be available first-come, first-served all day at the Bowles S-11 lot on Skipper Bowles Drive near the Smith Center. A shuttle will run from this lot to Kenan Stadium before and after University Commencement. We recommend parking here and using the shuttle to get to both ceremonies without having to move your cars.

Seating in the Smith Center is first-come, first-served and unlimited. Tickets are not required.

After you cross the stage, a photographer will take a picture of you shaking Dean Folkerts’ hand. Please remember to stop and pose.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 1 p.m. and be over by 2 p.m. Please note that another school has a ceremony after our ceremony, and we appreciate your cooperation in clearing out of the Smith Center in a timely manner.

Questions may be directed to Amy Bugno at amybugno@unc.edu.
