J-school places second and third in Hearst Intercollegiate competitions

Hearst awardThe school placed second nationally in broadcast news and third in photojournalism in this year’s Intercollegiate Competition of the Hearst Journalism Awards Program, known as the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism. Only one other school placed in two of the three overall Hearst competitions.

The second-place finish in broadcast news comes with a $5,000 prize; $2,500 for third place in photojournalism. Journalism schools that place in the Intercollegiate Competition are recognized according to points accumulated by students placing in monthly Hearst competitions.

The winners in each category will receive cash prizes and medallions during the National Championships in New York City at the Intercollegiate Awards Presentation on Thursday, June 10.  The overall Intercollegiate winners, those schools with the highest combined student points from the monthly writing, photo, broadcast news and multimedia competitions, will also be announced at the awards presentation.
