J-school students take first and second in Hearst multimedia competition

Carolina photojournalism seniors Margaret Cheatham Williams and Arkasha Stevenson placed first and second, respectively, in the multimedia competition’s features category of the 51st annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program, known as the Pulitzers of collegiate journalism.

Their work was selected from among 68 entries submitted from 40 schools nationwide. For placing first with her entry “Goodnight Moon,” Williams will receive a $2,600 scholarship. Stevenson will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Carolina is currently first overall in accumulated student points in the Hearst Intercollegiate Multimedia Competition. The final multimedia school ranks will be announced after the second multimedia competition in May. Points from the multimedia competitions will be added to writing, photo and broadcast competition points to determine the overall intercollegiate winners.
