Matthew Rhoades, former NIKE Global Creative Director, to speak Oct. 27

Matthew Rhoades, NIKE's former Global Creative Director, will present about NIKE, its branding and marketing, and his design work at NIKE on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 p.m. in Carroll Hall room 33.

Rhoades holds a bachelor's degree in industrial design from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif. He was hired as NIKE's first Global Creative Director and was involved in the supervision of NIKE's brand design and strategic planning. Rhoades also served as a creative liaison and was in charge of the performance enhancement of product innovations. He holds more than 45 patents for his design work, and he worked on an early version of the composite bicycle with which Lance Armstrong won seven Tour De France competitions.

He hasĀ  served on the faculty at the University of Oregon, and with D'Wayne Edwards of NIKE he co-founded the PENSOLE School of Footwear Design in partnership with the University of Oregon's School of Architecture and Allied Arts, the Art Center College of Design, and Parsons The New School for Design in New York. PENSOLE promotes a global footwear design curriculum within the field of industrial design.
